Focus Features has dropped a brand new trailer for LAIKA’s next stop-motion animation project Kubo and the Two Strings. This supernatural epic is the most ambitious film of the studio, with LAIKA president and CEO Travis Knight taking over the directorial reins, after having worked as the lead animator and producer on the studio’s previous efforts, which includes 2009’s Coraline, 2012’s ParaNorman, and 2014’s The Boxtrolls.
The story revolves around Young Kubo (Art Parkinson), whose peaceful existence comes crashing down when he unintentionally summons a vengeful spirit from the past. He must then work together with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) in order to save his family and solve the mystery surrounding the death of his father.
Aside from Parkinson, Theron, and McConaughey, the movie also features the voices of Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes, George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Brenda Vaccaro.
Kubo and the Two Strings hits US theaters on August 19th.
