It’s time to go back to The Further once again.
Universal Pictures has revealed our first look at Insidious: Chapter 4, the next installment in the successful Insidious franchise made famous by James Wan.
In the pic, we see Lin Shaye reprising her role as Elise Rainier, the gifted psychic who possesses the ability to travel to The Further and back in search of human souls that have drifted unconsciously into this world so far beyond our own. Beside her is newcomer Tessa Ferrer (Grey’s Anatomy), who seems like the person Shaye is coming to save.
Chapter 4 is directed by Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan) from a script penned by Insidious co-creator Leigh Whannell.
In a recent interview with the Daily Dead, Shaye talked about the timeline of the movie and where it will fit in the franchise:
In general, it goes back to Elise’s beginnings. And you also meet Elise at a very different point in her life. It takes place right after the end of Chapter 3, when she walks off with Specs and Tucker and they’re starting their company, Spectral Sightings, and they are now living at her home. They’re like her two sons, her two bad sons.
She also added that the film will look into her past, including her family:
You meet my family, my mother, my father—we go back to my hometown, which is in New Mexico. And so that’s where this takes place and her quest to find the bad guy that’s been haunting her. It’s a really wonderful story. I think the fans will really, really enjoy it. And it’s scary on levels they’re not going to expect.
I dont think they can make another Insidious film as good as the first one (the next succeeding chapters were a complete disappointment), but Im still hopeful that this “sequel to the prequel” would turn out scary good as well.
Insidious: Chapter 4 is scheduled for release on October 20, 2017.
