Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow just dropped the first official photo of Ocean’s 8, and boy does it look seriously bad-ass.
This new photo gives us our first official look at the ensemble cast of talented (and highly bankable) actresses playing the role of master thieves: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.
Gary Ross directs the highly anticipated all-female actioner, which is a spin-off from 2001’s Ocean Eleven starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. The heist film, later on, gave way to two more sequels in the form of 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve and 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen.
Check out the photo below, which also debuted on Rihanna’s Twitter account.
There is no official word yet as to the plot of the film, but a short summary has been disclosed that reveals each of their character’s name and the climactic event setting:
The tide will turn as Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaline); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).
Entertainment Weekly reports that Vogue’s Anna Wintour, designers Alexander Wang and Zoc Posen, and Vanity Fair’s Derek Blasberg are all set to make a cameo in the film. Damian Lewis is also rumored to play Bullock’s ex-boyfriend while a few familiar faces from the previous franchise are expected to make an appearance as well.
Is George Clooney one of those familiar faces slated to appear in the film? The idea doesn’t really seem that far-fetched, given his character and Bullock’s both share the same last name. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait for the official trailer and synopsis for more updates about this movie.
Ocean’s 8 steals its way to US theaters on June 8, 2018.
