Back in January, the teaser trailer for Colossal – Anne Hathaway’s upcoming monster pic – was released, and it gave us a partial view of the film’s zany premise. Now, a new trailer has surfaced online, giving us yet another look at one of the most unusual features to hit the big screen this year.
The film stars Anne Hathaway as a no-good drunkard woman named Gloria who returns to her hometown after getting kicked out of her job and her apartment. She then reunites with her old pal (Jason Sudeikis), but eventually falls back to her old, destructive habits over time. On the other side of the globe, a giant Kaiju monster comes out of nowhere in South Korea, wreaking havoc wherever it goes. Upon seeing the news, Gloria’s life gets turned upside down when she realizes that she shares a psychic connection with the enormous monster.
Directed by Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Open Windows), this wildly original film sees a completely different take on the giant creature genre, as it cleverly mixes sci-fi and comedy with a much more personal touch, making it an apropos creature feature.
Take a look at the new trailer below.
Clocking in at almost 2 minutes, the trailer doesn’t really offer anything exciting other than the ones we’ve already seen from the first footage. The only addition worth noting in the new clip are the snippets of positive reactions from critics that are plastered at different intervals within the trailer. So whatever hesitations that some people might have towards the film are now surely quashed by all these expressions of commendation.
Colossal already premiered last year at Fantastic Fest to a positive reception also from the general audience. They praised about how good the film has turned out, in spite of its bizarre concept, as well as the creative use of the Kaiju monster to depict alcoholism.
