Much like Transformers: The Last Knight, Disney’s highly awaited Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales seems like it’s all set to re-energize an already struggling franchise. And judging from the new action-packed trailer that dropped this week, it looks like it’ll be doing exactly that.
In this new clip, we finally get to see a better (and also younger) look at Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow as the trailer sees Captain Salazar, the film’s main villain played by the Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem, narrating about how a young Sparrow had fooled him years ago and turned him into the vengeful undead pirate that he is now.
Having escaped the infamous Bermuda Triangle, the Spanish pirate and his army of zombified crew are now hell-bent on killing every pirate at sea in search of the eccentric pirate captain. Sparrow’s “only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.”

While this trailer features an ample amount of swashbuckling action, it’s also worth noting that around the 1:51 mark, the clip labels the film as “the final adventure.” Whether it implies Disney finally closing the curtain of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise or not, that remains to be seen. We’ll find out in due time.
The blockbuster sequel is directed by Norwegian filmmakers Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning, and also sees the return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, and Martin Klebba as Marty. Newcomers Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites, Stephen Graham, Golshifteh Farahani, and Sir Paul McCartney round out the rest of the cast.
Dead Men Tell No Tales is expected to hit theaters on May 26. It marks Captain Sparrow’s return onto the high seas again since 2011’s On Stranger Tides, which took home a whopping $1.05 billion at the global box office, making it one of the highest grossing films of all time.
