DreamWorks Animation has finally released the official trailer for the long-awaited Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. And just like what the title suggests, it looks like this hysterically funny adaptation is going to be huge.
Based on the equally hilarious bestselling book series penned by Dav Pilkey, the film revolves around two creative grade-school pals/pranksters named George and Harold who put their arrogantly domineering principal Mr. Krupp in a trance and made him think he’s an invincible superhero.
You can watch the trailer below.
Directed by David Soren, the film features some of Hollywood’s biggest names in the comedy genre which includes Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch, and Ed Helms. They are lending their voices to the two imaginative kids and the tyrannical principal, respectively. Nick Kroll, Jordan Peele, and Kristen Schaal round out the rest of the cast.
Having read some of the Captain Underpants novels when I was still in high school, I am personally thrilled to see this film. I had such a great time flicking through the pages of this book series back then because of its ridiculously crazy plot, and I feel like I’m going to go through the same feeling of joy once again with this animated feature.
This first trailer clearly promises a great deal of vibrant animation and plenty of laughs for the entire family. And if it performs well in the box office, which I’m pretty positive it will, then a potential franchise could not be far behind especially since the author has already produced 12 novels since its inception in 1997, as well as numerous spin-offs in the succeeding years.
Captain Underpants swings its way to theaters on June 2.
Here’s the official synopsis of the film:
