It looks like Shark Week came a wee bit early for the A Walk to Remember star.
Last year, we witnessed Blake Lively fight for her own survival in The Shallows. This time, it’s Mandy Moore’s turn to pit herself against huge, ferocious sharks in the first trailer for what is probably the scariest open-water adventure this year: 47 Meters Down.
After a devastating break-up, Lisa (Moore) goes on a much-needed vacation in Mexico along with her daring sister Kate (Claire Holt). After meeting up with some locals, they decide to throw in a little excitement into their trip – swimming up close and personal with the great white sharks.
“It’s totally safe,” one of the locals assures Lisa, who seem hesitant and unwilling about the idea of shark-cage diving. But after an extra persuasion from her sis, she finally gives in and decides to take up the challenge.
Once underwater in a protective cage, Lisa and Kate experience a once in a lifetime adventure with the ocean’s greatest predators. However, things take a turn for the worst when the cage’s cables snap, sending both of them 47 meters down into the dark ocean with limited oxygen supply and a herd of ravenous great whites nearby.
Some people might have already seen this film under a different title: In The Deep. The reason for that is because Dimension Films, the original distributor of the pic, had it changed from 47 Meters Down after setting up an August 2016 DVD and VOD release in North America.
But after Entertainment Studios bought the rights to the film, they cancelled the August release, changed the name back to its original title, and scheduled a theatrical release in the US on June 16, 2017.
Directed by Johanness Roberts (The Other Side of the Door, upcoming The Strangers 2), the upcoming shark flick also stars Chris J. Johnson, Yani Gellman, Santiago Segura, and Matthew Modine.
