After a 20-second footage of what Dwayne Johnson would like to call the “Avengers of the Beach” was released yesterday, the full trailer for Paramount Pictures’ present-day reboot of Baywatch is finally here. And boy, are we in for some treat!
Directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), this modern outing, which is based from the classic TV show of the same name, stars Johnson as Mitch Buchannon, a tough, long-serving lifeguard who immediately comes into conflict with an arrogant rookie played by Zac Efron. While the two seem like they couldn’t get along, they eventually team up to stop an oil tycoon (Priyanka Chopra) from destroying the beach.
The rest of the team also made an appearance in the two-minute footage, including the tantalizing Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach, who, for some reason, looks like the Pamela Anderson of this bunch, seeing that she’s the one doing the famed slow-motion run from the TV series.
One major thing to point out from this trailer is how totally different this is from the hit show that preceded it. The David Hasselhoff-led version was serious in tone, but this one is nothing like it. I knew there has to be some changes, especially when it’s been given an R rating, but I honestly did not expect it to have that much humor that it starting to feel like it’s in the same feathers with 21 Jump Street. But that’s just me. Maybe this trailer is not what the entire film is going to look like.
The movie also stars Jon Bass, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jack Kesy, and Amin Joseph, with a special cameo performance from Anderson and Hasselhoff.
Baywatch swims into US theaters on May 26, 2017.
