20th Century Fox has just unveiled a new trailer for Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day: Resurgence, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 sci-fi hit. In this footage, we finally get a clear picture as to how huge this movie’s going to be.
Resurgence is set 20 years after the catastrophic events of the first movie. All the nations of the Earth have joined together in building an immense defense program to protect the Earth using alien technology recovered from the first movie. But nothing can prepare the world from the aliens’ unprecedented attack, where the only hope for survival depends on the ingenuity of a few brave men and women.
Speaking about the aliens in the movie, Emmerich said that they’re “nastier than the first ones.” He added, “This time they’re CG. With the first one, it was kind of wiggling s**t, and we had little puppets. And now we have a company like WETA, who does the best creature work, working with us. So that’s exciting to me.”
Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Bill Pullman reprise their characters in the sequel alongside newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Selma Ward.
Independence Day: Resurgence blasts into US theaters on June 24.
