First ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Trailer Teases American Spies and the Return of a Dead Character

20th Century Fox has finally unveiled the first full-length trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2015’s surprise hit Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Director Matthew Vaughn, the visionary filmmaker behind critically acclaimed box office hits such as Kick-ass, X-Men: First Class, and the first Kingsman film, returns in the director’s seat for the action spy sequel, which he co-wrote alongside English screenwriter Jane Goldman.

In The Golden Circle, the story continues with Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) who must travel across the pond to the US after their headquarters are destroyed and the world becomes captive to a criminal mastermind named Poppy (Julianne Moore). There they discover an allied spy organization named Statesman headed by Agent Champagne (Jeff Bridges). In order to save the world, the two elite forces team up to bring down a common enemy dead set on world domination.

One of the most exciting things about the sequel is the amount of star power that this film boasts. Not only do we have Oscar-winning actors Moore and Bridges in the mix, but we also get to check out Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, and Pedro Pascal kicking some ass as Statesman secret agents Tequila, Ginger, and Whiskey, respectively. Elton John is also on board for The Golden Circle, though his character is still shrouded in mystery. And of course, Colin Firth’s gallant and well-mannered Harry Hart – the former mentor of Eggsy who got killed in The Secret Service – is also set to return in the sequel.

So far, we are loving everything that we’ve seen from this first preview. The first film was an über-stylish take on the good ‘ol gentleman spy films that’s tremendously fun to watch, and with this follow-up, we can’t wait to see how director Vaughn would take it to the next level. He’s done some pretty good flicks in the past, and with a high-caliber cast such as this, we’re confident that this’ll blow past all expectations.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens September 22nd.
