20th Century Fox has finally unveiled our first look at the upcoming Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third and final chapter in the Maze Runner film series. The dystopian sci-fi pic opening in 2018 is based on the last book of author James Dashner’s best-selling YA trilogy.
In this concluding installment, Dylan O’Brien reprises his role as Thomas and leads a pack of escaped Gladers on their most perilous mission yet – to save their friends. For them to do that, they must break into a WCKD-controlled labyrinth more deadly than before. Only when they make it out alive will they finally know the answers to the questions they’ve been yearning to know since they arrived in the maze.
Take a look at the first Maze Runner: The Death Cure trailer below.
There’s really not much to see in this first footage, especially since the first few seconds are just clips from the first two films. However, we do get a glimpse at some of the action and spectacular stunts that we’ll expect from the movie. And from the looks of it, it seems as though fans won’t be disappointed with the series’ conclusion.
Still directed by Wes Ball, the finale also sees the return of Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Will Poulter, and Patricia Clarkson. Aidan Gillen, Walton Goggins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Nathalie Emmanuel round out the rest of the cast.
The Death Cure was initially set for a February 2017 release. But after O’Brien suffered severe injuries during an on-set mishap, the production was temporarily shut down. Filming resumed over a year later, with O’Brien finally recovering from the accident and ready to finish filming the series.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure is now slated for release in US theaters on January 26, 2018.
