That’s right, Michael Bay is back!
Paramount Pictures has just dropped the first full trailer of Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth installment in the growing universe of the Transformers film series. And judging from this two-minute footage, it looks like the franchise has no plans of letting up the kaboom.
Still directed by Michael Bay, the film sees the return of Mark Wahlberg in the lead role along with Transformers alums John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, and Josh Duhamel. The story will feature two storylines from two contrasting timelines which will eventually come together at the end, as reported by our friends at Gizmodo during their set visit. It will look deeper into how and why these robots got split into groups, as well as their historical background here on Earth.
Here’s the action-packed trailer.
While the Transformers franchise hasn’t sat well with film critics since its inception, I think it’s the sheer magnitude of spectacle present in each installment that keeps this franchise thriving at the box office. Never mind the fair-to-middling story and the occasional cheesy dialogues and terrible acting. People show up because Bay still has the goods to deliver unequaled blockbuster extravaganza that’s worthy of a big screen experience.
The film, which is written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) and Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), also stars Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci, Jerrod Carmichael, John Goodman, Isabela Moner, Gil Birmingham, and Jean Dujardin.
Transformers: The Last Knight will make its way to US theaters on June 23, 2017.
