20th Century Fox has released the spectacular first trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes last week, and judging from its title, it’s safe to assume that things are not going to end well between the humans and the defiant apes.
The film, which is the third chapter in the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise following 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, picks up two years after the events that took place in Dawn where Andy Serkis’ Caesar and his mutinous primates are now in a state of conflict with the humans led by a cold-blooded Woody Harrelson. The two are pitted against each other in an eventual epic battle that would, without a doubt, look as unrelenting, if not more, as when the apes attacked the camp in Dawn.
Check out the first trailer below.
Even from the first scene of the trailer, with Caesar’s voice looming in the background as he grimly say “I did not start this war,” one can already sense how epic this film is going to be. We can probably expect a handful of human-ape encounters along the way with some resulting in tragic consequences for either parties, thus their determined commitment to eradicate the other species.
As with Rise and Dawn, War also boasts an abundance of impressive visual effects worthy of an Oscar nod for its top-notch motion-capture technology in making Caesar and the rest of the apes as real and life-like as possible. The cinematography is just as spectacular as well. I can’t wait to see how everything is going to play out in this sequel. Are you guys also excited?
Matt Reeves, the same guy who gave us Dawn, returns as the director for this sequel that also stars Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Terry Notary, Karin Konoval, and Max Lloyd-Jones.
Watch out for War for the Planet of the Apes when it swings to theaters on July 14, 2017.
