‘Wonder Woman’ Main Villain Finally Revealed?

DC Comics’ upcoming Wonder Woman film is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated releases to come out this year. Perceived as the first female-led superhero movie since 2005’s Elektra, the film puts Gal Gadot’s titular character front and center this time after being introduced (and greatly commended) in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The standalone feature focuses on the backstory of Diana’s first encounter with men and how she joins them in their fight against the Nazis during the World War I conflict. But given the metahuman state of the iconic Amazonian princess, there has to be another character worthy to be called as Wonder Woman’s ultimate adversary. Thanks to our friends at, we finally know who that character is.

As per the site, a French magazine (Studio Ciné Live) did a cover on Wonder Woman recently where they revealed a couple of details about the film, including who the main baddie is. Translated by Les Toiles Héroïques, the publication seemed to confirm that the villain will be none other than Ares, the God of War.

Here is the translated version of the section where the antagonist was mentioned:

Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against him, with the help of the Amazons)…

Chris Pine, who plays the pilot Steve Trevor, also gave some insights about the character he’s portraying. This is what he said:

I play a pilot who works for the Allies and spies on the Germans without their knowledge. My character steals a notebook filled with scientific formulas in an Ottoman base, he steals a plane but is shot down in the open sea.

For those who are unaware, Ares has been known to be one of Wonder Woman‘s primary enemies in the comics, so using him in a war-ridden setting is a perfect choice to go with the narrative.

As for who’s playing Ares, sadly, no further details have been revealed. But if I may based it from the trailers, I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s Danny Huston. The way he’s presented in the past footage makes him seem like a primary threat in the film. Plus, he’s too good of an actor to be playing only a trivial character. He could possibly be Ares disguised as a high-ranking Nazi leader overseeing the whole thing. But that’s just me. DC and Warner Bros. haven’t confirmed anything about this, so it would be best to take this piece of info with a grain of salt. Anyway, we’ll keep you updated once they shed some light on this matter.

Wonder Woman opens June 2 in US theaters.
